1970 Chevelle SS Super Sport 396 L78 4-speed 12-bolt documented build sheet
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 L78 Description
I'm selling my documented 1970 Chevelle SS 396 L78 4-speed. I have the factory build sheet as well as the certificate from the L78 registry. This is a factory 4-speed car with N40 power steering, U14 gauge package, & ZL2 cowl induction. It's also a factory 795 interior with 48-48 paint & white stripes. The build sheet shows the car being sold new at Sugg Chevrolet in Boyertown, PA. I am the 4th owner and the car has 80k original miles on it.
The body was restored in 2001, professionally repainted in the original forest green with white stripes. The paint is in excellent shape with no scratches or chips. The car has been garage kept for the last 20 years and has absolutely no rust or rot anywhere. The floors & frame are rock solid. The interior was partially restored; the front seat was reupholstered, the carpet & headliner were replaced, and a 3-spoke cushion grip steering wheel was added. The rest of the interior is original and in excellent condition. The car has a Painless wiring harness installed which uses the newer blade style fuses. The lights, turn signals, wipers, radio, gauges all work.
The motor is a .020 over 454 (3999289 block) with 11:1 forged pistons & new top end using all ARP hardware.
Less than 2,000 miles on the following parts:

The car runs strong and on 93 pump gas!
The transmission is a Muncie M21 with a Hurst competition shifter. It has less than 4,000 miles on it since it was rebuilt using all new synchros, seals, & bearings. The clutch, pressure plate, & throwout bearing were also replaced at that time. The car retains its original born-with "CKF" 12-bolt rear end which has been fully rebuilt and upgraded to 3.90 gears. It also has a heavy duty driveshaft from Nassau Driveshafts.
The front end was rebuilt and has had a recent wheel alignment. New ball joints & bushings were installed at that time. The car has a Hotchkis front sway bar as well as rear upper/lower control arms & rear frame reinforcement braces. It also has Lakewood traction bars & drag shocks all around. The braking system was also redone; new master cylinder, rotors, pads, shoes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, etc. The gas tank has also been replaced. To complete the "Day-2" look, American Racing Torque Thrust "D" wheels were added; 15x7" with BFG Radial T/A tires up front, 15x8.5" with M&H Racemaster drag radials in the rear. The car is turn key and in excellent condition. I have receipts for all the work done to the car going back 20 years. Everything listed has a receipt!

Since the L78 was only available as an option for a short time during the 1970 run, there were only 2,144 produced making it the rarest of the bunch. That number includes coupes, convertibles, and El Caminos. There are only 29 coupes known to exist today.
The car is registered & insured in my name. It has a current NYS inspection and I have a transferable NYS registration in hand. Please contact me to discuss any questions you may have about the car prior to submitting an offer and please don't submit an offer unless you are committed to buying the car. You can reach me at (516) 641-8104 or send me a message and I will respond as soon as possible. The car is being sold in as-is condition. No trades. I will accept a deposit through PayPal but the balance will have to be either cash in person or a certified bank check. The deposit is non-refundable. The car will not leave my possession until all funds have cleared. The buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping costs & arrangements. All sales are final, no refunds!
