1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible
1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Description
. This is the BEST starting price for a very nice Shelby GT500 convertible you'll find on the internet! This is a SOLID vehicle. Good luck!!
For sale is my 1968 Shelby GT500. The cars are getting harder and harder to find, and I hope you see the value in this very nice example.
I purchased this car a short while back with the intention of performing a rotisserie restoration to make it look like it did the day it left the showroom. Keep in mind this vehicle is not in need of a restoration. It's a very solid driver car as-is. I am selling this vehicle only because I'm moving to San Antonio very shortly and could use the money for a down payment on a new house.
Body and Paint: Overall, the body of this vehicle is in very good condition. All sheet metal is original. However, back in the 80s, the driver side rear quarter panel was hit and repaired. The dent was pulled and leaded in, and looks really good. This vehicle is believed to be last painted in the mid 90s. The paint looks very nice and shines well. There is a very small amount of rust on the passenger side rear quarter panel (on the very bottom) that is not clearly visible from out the outside of the vehicle (see picture with the black circle around the bubbles). The only evidence of this is a couple small bubbles in the paint. This rust has not gone through through and this would be a very easy repair. Additionally, there is an extremely small amount of rust on the bottom of the driver door, near the weeps. This car is very solid and by no means a "rust bucket". There is nothing in need of repair at the moment, but I'm trying to be very transparent here.
Mechanical: Mechanically, everything works and the car drives very nice and straight down the road. When I bought the vehicle, there was a very small coolant leak under the dash from the heater core, which again, was very minor. That has been fixed. On average, I drive this Shelby about once a month, although it sat for about 2 months, but I just drove it today. During an inspection from a tentative buyer, a transmission leak was noted as there was fluid on my epoxy garage floor. I have not yet investigated the source of the leak, but I can imagine it is a very easy fix...likely a gasket. I may fix it if I have the time this weekend...just not enough hours in the day!
Drive train: The engine is not the original engine. I'm no Shelby guru, but from what I believe (and was told), it is an era correct motor. The carburetor is also the correct model carb, but not believed to be original to the vehicle. This Shelby has the C-6 Select Shift automatic transmission, which is believed to be original.
Interior: The interior of the vehicle is very nice. Not perfect, but very nice. There are no rips, tears, etc. The interior has zero/minimal fading as this vehicle was always stored indoors. The dash was signed by Carroll Shelby.
Shelby Registry: This vehicle is listed in the Shelby Registry. As you can see below, this is the information contained within the registry: I am believed to be the 6th owner of the vehicle.
