1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible - NO RESERVE
1968 Ford Mustang Convertible Description
. This is the BEST starting price for a very nice Shelby GT500 convertible you'll find on the internet! This is a SOLID vehicle. Good luck!!
For sale is my 1968 Shelby GT500. The cars are getting harder and harder to find, and I hope you see the value in this very nice example. This is a PRIVATE PARTY sale. The title is free and clear and is in my personal name.
I purchased this car a short while back with the intention of performing a rotisserie restoration to make it look like it did the day it left the showroom. Keep in mind this vehicle is not in need of a restoration. It's a very solid driver car as-is. My plans have changed, and I'm reducing my car collection. This is the car I swore I would not sell, but I'm out of room and don't have enough time to enjoy everything I have.
Body and Paint: Overall, the body of this vehicle is in very good condition. All sheet metal is original. However, back in the 80s, the driver side rear quarter panel was hit (minor collision) and repaired. The dent was pulled and leaded in, and looks absolutely perfect. Per the previous owner, this Shelby was last painted in the early 90s. Though the paint looks very good, it is certainly not perfect as it does have some imperfections. The door weep holes have an extremely small amount of rust. It is so minimal it does not photograph well. This car is very solid and by no means a "rust bucket". The bottom of the passenger side has some paint bubbling, but it is extremely minor. When you push on it, it is still very solid. Overall, I would call the body of this Shelby very, very good. I don't buy junk...plain and simple. This Shelby spent most of its life in California before I brought it here to AZ, both having arid climates. There is nothing in need of repair at the moment, but I'm trying to be very transparent here.
Mechanical: Mechanically, everything works and the car drives very nice and straight down the road. When I bought the vehicle, there was a very small coolant leak under the dash from the heater core, which again, was very minor. That has been fixed. I have owned this Shelby for about a year, and put on at most 100 miles, and had zero problems. During an inspection from a tentative buyer, a transmission leak was noted as there was fluid on my epoxy garage floor. Also, both valve covers have small leaks, and a fuel line in the engine area is leaking too. All of these repairs are an afternoon's work. I simply don't have the time, or desire, to do this. I have a lot of vehicles, two young kids, a busy schedule, and not a lot of free time. Believe me if I had the time to enjoy this Shelby, it would not be here on eBay.
Drive train: The engine is not the original engine. I'm no Shelby guru, but from what I believe (and was told), it is an era correct 428 Police Interceptor motor. The carburetor is also appears to be era correct, but not believed to be original to the vehicle. This Shelby has the C-6 Select Shift automatic transmission, which is believed to be original.
Interior: The interior of the vehicle is very nice, and completely original. The previous owner had the glove box signed by Carroll Shelby, which is a nice compliment to the car. There are no rips, tears, etc. The interior has zero/minimal fading as this vehicle was always stored indoors.
Shelby Registry & Marti Report: This vehicle is listed in the Shelby Registry. As you can see below, this is the information contained within the registry: I am believed to be the 6th owner of the vehicle. Additionally, I do have a copy of a current Marti Report that I received about 6 months ago. If you message me, I'll be glad to email it to you.
