1996 Ford Explorer Sport. Good for parts or mechanic.
1996 Ford Explorer Sport Description
Rear brakes, steering rack and O2 sensor recently replaced. Numerous small dings and scratches. Buyer responsible for transportation of vehicle. Engine runs well but transmission is shot. Vehicle cannot be driven.
I bought it about one year ago from a garage that had acquired it from a customer. The ABS light came on shortly after I bought it but the Ford dealer said that the needed parts were no longer available. So essentially, it no longer has ABS brakes. It has standard brakes, however. I had a few things done to it but it still needed upper control arms and lower ball joints. While waiting to schedule that work, the transmission failed. My mechanic and the mechanic that I bought the truck from both agreed that the transmission was shot and needed to be replaced. After the purchase price plus about $2300 more that I had already put into it, I decided to cut my losses. If I were a mechanic, I'd replace the transmission and do the front end work. It was an extra vehicle for me, and I'm not a mechanic, so it's more practical to simply sell it. As it sits, it cannot be driven so it must be towed or trailered by the buyer.
