Here is a quick guide to buying these used Honda Insights: greencarreports.com/news/1090932_buying-a-used-2000-2006-honda-insight-hybrid-the-guide
I have had since May 18th, 2012. I am now looking to sell since we bought a prius in order to haul the kiddo around with the backseats - unfortunately we weren't going to put him in the passenger seat of this car.
I bought the car from a person who lives in Fennville, MI. Who had another Insight like it. He had quite a bit of experience with hybrids and batteries. This person put a charger onto the car's IMA batteries. This allows the battery cells to stay balanced and equal when charged once a week.
This model does not have A/C.
The car still gets great gas mileage - especially in the summer. Winter tends to affect hybrids more than regular ICE cars - especially when driving short distances. I averaged around 40 in the winter and 50ish in the summer depending on how I drove it.
I have not had a single issue with the engine. It is still running well, oil is changed regularly with honda filters and 0w-20 oil. The batteries do at times pull up a code that says they are deteriorated if I do not charge the pack for about 4 hours once per week. Other than that it functions well throughout. There are times in the winter, when I go too long between re-balancing the battery pack when the car does not turn on (this is because the IMA batteries aren't able to quickly turn on the gas engine - and the regular starter is not working properly - the car never uses the regular starter to start the car), I've only been in a pinch a few times when I was able to push the car and put it into gear to start it - another perk of manual transmissions.
The drivers side window stopped working a few years ago. I replaced it with a new motor, then that one died just a bit ago that does still need to be replaced.
