1997 Land Rover Range Rover 4.0 SE Description

1997 LAND ROVER, RANGE ROVER 4.0 SE - Legendary Range Rover performance. Provides an unmatched combination of secure, around town and On-Road driving, combined with rock solid, proven Off-Road capability. Unlike any other brand or model of Off-Road 4x4 pretender. This Range Rover walks the walk, not just for the shopping center or supermarket crowd, but where it counts. On the road and in the trails, fields, farms, sand, hills, rock walls, deep snow, ice and every other type of rough terrain and difficult on-road or off-road driving condition you may ever encounter. In any weather. Anytime.
Classic Range Rover appearance, in Epsom Green Metallic (the original British Racing Green), with Tan Leather interior. The vehicle has only 117,364 miles, averaging only 6,177 miles per year since new.
The 4.0 liter engine, is the bullet proof, highly regarded, well-proven Range Rover 4.0 Liter V-8, gasoline powered motor. The Automatic Transmission offers both a 4 speed with OverDrive High Range (for street & highway driving) and a dynamically unique, 4 speed Low Range Transfer Case Gearbox. The 4 speed with OverDrive High Range, may be used as a full Automatic, or optionally shifted manually through each gear (for additional control & engine braking), providing a safe and comfortable driving experience at every level and road condition.
The 4 speed Low Range Transfer Case, offers a very rare, unique, powerful and extremely high torque power range, specifically designed for extremely challenging terrain, harsh conditions and recreational crawl driving (rock climbing, etc).
There is also a MODE switch (located on the center console), which, when activated, holds the transmission to higher RPM shift points, enabling greatly increased torque and power, for enhanced Sport Driving or more efficient Load Pulling capacity. The Engine, Transmission and Transfer Case are all in excellent working condition.
As the original owner, I can absolutely confirm that the Engine & Transmission Oil (with Transmission Filter) have been changed every 3 months since new.
The exterior surface paint is worn, typical to its age, however, there is no evidence of visible body rust on the exterior vehicle. There is no significant body damage of any kind. There are a few minor (parking type) dents on the rear corner and a small 2" tear (from wear) in the horizontal portion of the driver seat. The interior headliner is sagging and requires reattachment (no tears), a typical Land Rover condition seen in older vehicles. There are minor electrical issues, typical of a Lucas Electric system of this era.
The Brakes, Brake Lines and Rotors were completely replaced in 2014. The Alternator (new notre-manufactured) was replaced in 2014.
To enhance stability and reliability, the original troublesome Range Rover Air Suspension system, including all pumps, inflatable suspension air bags, and related gear, were removed in 2003. The suspension was converted to an authorized Land Rover "Coil-Over" format, with new springs and shocks. The Coil-Over conversion has proven highly successful and served to permanently remove a traditional and very costly, Range Rover repair issue.
With the Coil-Over suspension conversion, the Approach, Departure & Breakover Angles, are superior to virtually any comparable SUV 4x4 vehicle. For example:Front Approach Angle (maximum to Bumper) 38 degRear Departure Angle (to crossmenber) 32 degBreakover Angle 151 deg
In summary, this is a solid, reliable example of a 1997 Ranger Rover 4.0 SE. It has had only 1 original owner, has averaged only 6,177 miles per year since new and has always been very well maintained.
