Very rare left hand drive 1976 Daimler DS420 limousine.Complete and running. Manufactured by Vanden Plas.
This car is made by the British company named Daimler Company Limited. It is not related to the German company, Daimler. This Daimler only made limousines used by the British government and the royal family. They were also used in Great Britain for limousines and hearses. Today, they are commonly used for wedding limos in Great Britain.
Jaguar provided the chassis and drivetrain. The Jaguar engine has been easy to buy parts for.
This car was a response to the Rolls Royce Phantom V limousine. It is precisely the same length and width, and shares similar interior dimensions and accoutrements.
It has an original flag mount on the front fender. It has dead bolt latches in the doors. These were not for sale in the US but the left hand drive means it was made for use over here. The left hand drive is very rare. Only about 4000 of these were ever built and almost all of these were right hand drive. It appears from Wikipedia website that only 71 LHD were ever made.
I recently purchased this car at a collector's auto auction. I planned on using it for a wedding limo. I've changed my mind since I have two classic Rolls Royce's being restored so I shouldn't start a third restoration at this time. I just spent $3000 on mechanicals to get it running nice. Have receipts. I had a new electronic distributor installed. This is much more reliable and easy to maintain than the old rotor and points distributor. I also had a new water pump, and new ignition coil, a new fuel pump, and a new gas tank installed. It starts immediately and runs good. The front left brake caliper bleeder screw broke off. The brakes work well still. The exhaust has a leak somewhere.
Car is complete and running but needs refinishing. The body has some surface rust and some body filler. Doors are solid and align well. The carpet will need to be replaced and the front seat and door panels need reupholstering.
I have $10,000 invested in this car so someone will be getting a heck of a deal. Would make a great wedding limo. Just refinish the body and interior and start making money.
