1998 Porsche 911 Carrera S Description

This is a 1998 911 Carrera S (993) that was ordered under the Porsche Exclusive Programme. It has many of the available options (see total list below). I have the “Certificate of Authenticity” (aka. “Birth Certificate”) obtained from Porsche. This car has undergone a complete renovation, with a newly rebuilt engine (approximately 7,000 miles ago), New Bilstein Shock absorbers, Updated sound system, custom exterior paint using the original Porsche body color (Ocean Blue) with lime metallic green accents (see photos), and a redone interior using the original leather color (Midnight Blue) with accents of lime green perforated leather seat inserts and non-perforated panel accents. All body/engine parts that have been changed were replaced with Genuine Porsche parts.

The car came originally from FL and since I have owned it (11 years), it has been garaged in AZ. There are no signs of rust or deterioration that is not unusual for cars in the snow areas of the country. This two-owner car represents the pinnacle of the air-cooled era of Porsche cars. “In car design, total perfection is impossible, but they got close with the 993.” (Friedrich Bezner) This is the last ½-year of production for this car (only 1201 Carrera S models were built for the US). Many have said that this body is one of the most beautiful Porsche ever produced, and this example is one of the best (and certainly most unique) of the Carrera S cars available. The addition of the Turbo II Aerokit (from the factory) provides a beautiful enhancement to the lines of the car. This is practically a new car and due to all of the recent work performed is likely in better condition than many, if not all, of the lower mileage examples that you will find. The CarFax was clean when I purchased the car. In my opinion, except for the GT3/GT2 models, this is the last real “sports car” Porsche made as they transitioned to more Sport-Luxury cars.

Question regarding prior accident and number of owners. The current CarFax report indicated “estimated” four owners. To my knowledge, it is only two. Whichever it is, its current condition does not reflect driver abuse or overuse. As I indicated above, when I bought the car, the CarFax was clean (no accidents). I’m not sure how that information is there now and was not when I purchased the car. Whatever the situation is, there is no evidence now during either striping the car to paint or doing any of the mechanical/suspension work that indicated there was an accident.

Question: Why am I selling the car? I did all of this work as a creative project. It is now done and I am in the process of a lifestyle change that does not need to retain possession of the car. I assume that the next owner will care for the car as much as I have.

Engine: The engine machining and balancing was performed by Competition Engineering of California (one of the most respected and precise firms that do this type of work). The rebuild included replacement of all of the typical wear parts and is likely better than when new. In addition to the work on the pistons and cylinders, the cams and valves (with guides and seats) were reground to spec. The casting marks/texture of the aluminum Varioram intake manifold were removed and polished (looks pretty slick and unique). The internal passages were honed to reduce air flow resistance (and improve intake air flows). The stated horsepower for this engine is 285 HP, but this feels like it is greater than that due to the work performed.

Interior: The interior leather work is superb and the combination of dark blue and lime green is stunning. Along with the new interior leather, the Porsche crest was embroidered on the seat headrest. The stitching is all done in contrasting colors (blue thread on the green leather and green thread on the blue leather). The leather is complimented with the Carbon Fiber accent pieces. The combination is both unique and still Porsche.

Paint and Exterior: All of the bumper covers, lights, spoilers, and hood were removed and finished separately to assure a quality paint job. The body and body parts were stripped down to bare metal/plastic (confirming that there has been no body damage) and custom painting was carefully performed. The original Ocean Blue paint color was used as the main color with the lime metallic green accent stripes on the side panels and rear spoiler were custom-designed to accent the body lines. Every attention was paid to quality design, detail, and execution. The accent colors are under the clear topcoat and you can feel no edge when you run your finger over the paint. The result made a beautiful car even more eye-catching. In addition to the beautiful body paint, the wheels and the center caps were also painted to match the body colors. Additionally, the headlight lenses were replaced and new fog light assemblies were installed. The “Carrera S” designation on the rear of the car is color matched to the lime green accent paint. Overall, it is dazzling.

Suspension: The can has been lowered to European Specs and now sits at about four inches off ground clearance. The lowered stance improved handling and substantially enhances the appearance. The new Bilstein shocks added to the fantastic handling characteristics of the car.
