2005 Saab 9-2X Aero Wagon 4-Door Description

For sale is my 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero AWD, 5 speed manual transmission, 2.0 liter turbo engine. Black exterior with black and light gray interior. The Saab 9-2x Aero was sold under the Saab brand, but is mechanically closest to a Subaru Impreza WRX wagon with some steering components from the Subaru STI. The interior was updated to match the Saab brand.

The car has 132,160 miles and counting. I originally bought this car to use in winter weather and for utility purposes, but my wife and I have decided to sell our house and will not be taking the car with us, and need the money to do some improvements on our house prior to sale. Car is being sold as is. Clean title.

Mechanical

The car runs and drives well. There are no check engine lights. The engine feels strong and has good power. The transmission shifts into all five gears and reverse without issue, and the clutch engages smoothly. AWD works normally. The steering feels tight and responsive.

Recent improvements and service items include:

  • Air bag recall #15042 complete

  • Front passenger CV axle replaced

  • Power steering fluid pump replaced

  • Power steering fluid replaced

  • New coolant

  • Rear strut replaced

  • Air conditioner refrigerant serviced/recharged

  • Refurbished rear hatch handle mechanism

Interior

The interior is in good shape for the age and mileage of the car. It is a cloth interior with power windows, locks, and sunroof. The car comes with an aftermarket Pioneer radio with auxiliary cable. The seats are comfortable and have no rips. Interior mats/carpet/upholstery is clean. All interior lights/switches/latches/gauges work normally.

Exterior

The exterior is in average shape for the age and mileage of the car. All doors, locks, windows, and latches work fine. There are clear coat scratches on the rear drivers side door and rear passenger side door. There is also a scratch that is approximately 1 cm long on the front driver side door. There is a scuff mark and small crack on the bottom lip of the front bumper. These are shown in the attached pictures, with the crack shown next to a standard 2" x 3.5" business card. There are clear coat scratches around door handles, and around the rear bumper where hatch opens.

Known Issues

There is an oil leak on the driver's side of the engine bay. My mechanic diagnosed it as a leaky valve cover gasket, which is a known problem for Subaru engines of this age/mileage. This leak periodically gets onto the exterior of the exhaust and causes an oil burning smell. It can be fixed by replacing the valve cover gasket. Aftermarket valve cover gasket kits are readily available online or at local auto parts stores if you are willing to do the work yourself.

The front driver side CV axle will likely need to be replaced soon. A slight rumble is coming from that area of the car while driving, which is typical of a CV axle that is beginning to wear. The mechanic confirmed this diagnosis. The passenger side CV axle has already been replaced. Again, aftermarket parts can be found online or at local auto parts stores.

Left rear tire is getting low on tread and will need to be replaced soon.

Overall

The car is fun to drive, and the AWD is great in all types of weather. There are a few relatively minor issues that will need to be fixed, but there is plenty of life left in the car for the person that wants to put the effort into the maintenance items.
