I'm happy to offer for a sale this Rugged, Reliable and Iconic 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60.These trucks are one of Toyota’s finest examples or quality and engineering. This example is in great condition all around and ready to bedriven daily or taken on an off-road adventure.
Let’s dive right in!
Description:
This 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 has a Desert Beige exterior with a Beige/Brown interior. The paint presents itself exceptionally well and body is exceptionally straight and original for it's age. We just recently professionally fixed (full metal repair) all small surface rust issues including the top edge of the right rear fender and lower tailgate and paint matched. Also put in a new power steering pump and gave it a tune up.This truck is mechanically sound, a testament to Toyota’s reliability. With 250,860 on the clock the engine fires up right away and the 4WD works perfectly. The manual transmission and clutch are in good working order also. We bought this truck to do a full restoration, but a FJ25 has just recently become a full time project. With a little cosmetic TLC this truck can really turn into something special. This particular truck has spent most all of its life in the high mountain dry air of Wyoming. That is a benefit to the rust prone sheet metal of the early 80's Japanese vehicles. The rocker panels, wheel wells and other vulnerable areas, where you will commonly find rust eating away at the body, are rust free.
The Condition and Service:
Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:
-ENGINE
4.2 liter OHV inline 6 cyl. Fuel Delivery Carbureted Horsepower 135 @ 3600 rpm Torque 210 ft-lbs @ 1800 rpm Transmission 4 speed manual. This engine comes to life immediately with a twist of the key. She warms up quickly and revs smoothly. No knocks, bangs, excessive smoke or internal issues.
-TRANSAXLE
The 4 speed transmission is in great shape. No grinds or surprises. The clutch does let out a little high but no slippage.
-SUSPENSION
Nice riding truck, nothing clunking itself apart like many of them and Toyota comfortable. The rear struts are little weak.
-BRAKES
Good pedal, pad and rotors have good life in both front and rear
-STEERING
Power Steering pump was just replaced and is in perfect working order. Steering feels good, no excessive play or vibrations.
Let's continue to the exterior:
-PAINT and BODY
The body is about as straight as you can get on an original truck this old. There are a couple of small scratches and gravel pitting from years of dirt road travel and western use but no dents or dings from accidents or crashes. The paint is fairly nice! It is a 7 out of 10. Overall shiny Desert Beige paint which looks quite nice. No signs of a bondo job or accidents. It's only flaws come in the form of a couple minor dings/scratches etc, some sand blasting near the tires, some chips etc, and general wear. NO RUST! There appears to have been some paint touch ups as well. Good floors from underneath, some light oxidation on suspension components as per typical of all 80's Toyota's. This car presents as an “extra clean driver” cosmetically, but really looks quite nice none the less.
-WHEELS/TIRES
Tires have loads of tread and are newer. Wheels are in excellent shape - no major flaws. Spare tire is missing but the wheel is present.
-BUMPERS and BRIGHT WORK
The bumpers are in nice shape! No major dents, cracks or issues! Some minor dings, chipping of paint, and light fading.
-SEATS
The brown/beige seats are supportive.. The drivers seat has common tears on the bottom seat cushion (check pictures). They have some fabric tears as seen in the pictures, and have been under covers for some time, but the covers were removed to show the true shape of the seats. The vinyl on all of the seats are lightly cracked from being in a dry arid climate. The driver inside door panel is a custom panel that looks great but doesn’t match the others. I put seat covers on the front seats that will come with the truck. The rears are in very nice shape! Don't let the minor tears distract from the interior, overall it is quite nice, especially for a 33 year old car!
-DASHBOARD/PACKAGE TRAY
Nice shape, no major flaws, a few hairline cracks by the climate control as photoed. The tray is in great shape and is clean.
-AC
The original owner removed the AC system some years back when the compressor went bad. Someone convinced him the truck would have more power and get better fuel mileage if he just removed the system all together. We don't have the compressor.
-DOOR PANELS
Nice panels, The drivers side door panel is aftermarket. All present themselves well.
-CARPET
Carpet is original and clean and no major tears. Minor stains for a 250k vehicle.
-WINDOWS
All windows roll down and up with no issues. Good tracks and no dead rollers. There is no drivers window regulator.
-GAUGES
All the gauges work! Speedo, Odo, Temp and Gas.
-HEADLINER
The headliner is in overall good shape but there is a tear above where the right rear tire well is (check pictures). It doesn’t hang down or impede your view.
The Experience
Driving this Toyota is fantastic. You sit high and comfortable with great outward vision. The ride is comfortable around town and even better off road. It really doesn't get much better in a classic manual transmission Land Cruiser! I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is a great pre-owned and beautiful Land Cruiser. This truck would make an excellent candidate for a full restoration since the majority of the hard work has been done or just order an Old Man Emu catalog and go pound the trails. Beautiful classic design andimmenseoff roadcapabilitiesmake these classics that are Guaranteedto Appreciate! Get Them while they are Affordable.
Treat them well and keep up on basic maintenance and they will love you back! Don't spend big money on a truck from a "turn-em-and-burn-em" style dealer when all they do to promote the truck is say a few things they think people like to hear. As you may tell from my ad, I know the care that these trucks need and the details that make them tier 1, from a tier 2 or worse and I hope to have addressed them to those of you that know as well. If an ad says "Low miles and well cared for" Ask questions! If you don't get thorough, well addressed answers, start planning more money and more aspirin. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION! This truck is ready to go live another 150k+++ miles of beautiful, reliable, enjoyed life in your hands.
Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible.
My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service. I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves older truck (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these cars. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new car. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 250,860 mile truck, but however is above average for it's year. This is around average miles for a TLC of this year, but please just remember that no 250,860 mile car is perfect:) It is though a clean, nice Land Cruiser! Please only bid if you intend to buy. This truck is currently located in Thousand Oaks, CA.If you would like to have an Ebay 3rd party mechanic service check out the car I MORE than welcome it. Please have the car checked out before bidding and not after, if you intend to use that service. And please, if you would like to utilize this service, contact me with more than a couple days left in the auction so we can arrange schedules. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Buying over the internet can be scary sometimes! I get it, because I am an enthusiast too!! For that very reason, I am more than happy to answer every and any question you may so you know 100% what you are buying. But, please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase! All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!
