1996 Toyota Land Cruiser Description

1996 Toyota Land Cruiser - 242K miles and still being driven. These can go 500K miles if maintained.
The truck runs great, I don't drive it daily but have taken it on 700 miles trips with no issues - it'll drive as long as you want to go. Most electronics and accessories work without issues. This is a "triple locked" truck which means it came with the factory front and rear lockers and has also had the CDL 9 pin center differential modification done (rear locker not working: see below). It has the third row seats. I have the carfax from before I bought it, the original owner had it around 16 year
I thought I would never sell this, but I'm always wanting different vehicles and looking to get a newer 100 series Land Cruiser. This FZJ80 would be for an adult looking for an extra fun vehicle or teen driver.
Not sure why Autocheck shows 6 owners, based on the Carfax I pulled when buying, and talking to prior owner, I am the fourth owner - first for 16 years, then someone in Texas (friend of the person I bought from) for two years, then the person I bought from only had it 6 months and was selling due to gas and maintenance costs. I can share the carfax I pulled when I bought it.
Extras:
35" Duratrac Tires with around 10K miles on them.
ARB Front Bumper
4x4 Labs Rear Bumper
Sliders
Winch
Aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth streaming/phone and subwoofer. All 9 interior speakers replaced and sub box added.
Floor mats
LED interior and exterior lighting
LED Light bar
Recent Work/Maintenance:
Exhaust replaced from manifold back, Magnaflow cats installed
New O2 Sensors
All fluids replaced with synthetic
All A/C components replaced in last 2 years, brand new compressor. Ice cold.
Fan clutch replaced. Engine temp monitored with scan guage and never outside of a 10 degree range even if driving 80 in 100+ degree temps and A/C blasting.
Brake pads and rotors, along with CV axle, replaced 15K miles ago
New power steering pump.
E-brake parts replaced.
New Brake Master cylinder
Replaced birfields and longside front axle shaft
New sparkplugs and wires
Oil pump o-ring, front crankshaft seal replaced to address slight oil leaks
Knuckle reseal (both), replaced inner axle seals, replaced pinion seal - complete front axle is new parts and seals
I have over $10K invested in upgrades and big maintenance items
Negatives:
Not cosmetically perfect. Prior owners left "signs of ownership", I haven't babied it cosmetically either. It's clean but has signs of its age.
Owned first 15 years in a salt state, so there is rust and this is the only true negative of the truck to me. It hasn't changed in my 3.5+ years of Texas ownership and having it always garaged at home and work, but it's there. I've seen far worse but it does have some rust.
Rear locker has never engaged for me. Too rusted to rebuild I think, it would need to be replaced. Front and center differential locks work fine. All other 4WD components work fine. I've never been in a situation where I needed the lockers, but I would engage on loose gravel roads from time to time to verify functionality.
Some dash cluster lights are out - light showing it's in Drive, light indicating it's in the "power" setting, etc
With the big tires and extra weight it won't win any races, slow acceleration but will cruise at 80 no problem.
Front driver's window gets up and down but has an issue with the track, a little jerky.
Wobbly passenger side mirror, there is a fairly easy fix I've never implemented.
factory roof rack removed (looks better to me but others may find this a negative)
Rear Main Seal drips a drip every other day or so, have not tried Lucas Stop Leak as I accept a drip at this rate.
Summary:
This truck is not pristine, and has rust, but is mechanically sound and has lots of desirable upgrades and extras. Some of the big dollar maintenance work has been recently completed and will be good for many miles. You could daily this if you like driving a slow beast, you could have it as a great great second vehicle like I did, or you could turn into what it probably should be - an overland or offroad monster.
Other prices for similar 80 series Land Cruisers can be found on Autotrader.com, most at higher prices with similar aftermarket parts. Average nationwide price shown by Autotrader for 1995-1997 Toyota Land Cruisers or Lexus LX 450's is $14K, across a wide variety of conditions and many with no aftermarket parts. I've discounted due to rust and not being cosmetically pristine.
