1985 Volkswagen Other Description

1985 Volkswagon Westfalia. This is a daily driver, I switch back and forth between my pickup and this. I have put a ton of money and time into fixing it up. Love the thing, just don't use it the way it should be used, lets face it it was never intended to haul chicken and dog food. Excellent camping rig and comes with everything you see in the pictures (sleeping bag, binoculars, thermos, pots pans cups, hiking sticks, etc.). Runs good, doesn't burn oil, always dependable. It is not a show rig, but in great condition, much better than most it's age. I have tried to show it's defects in the pictures, only thing mechanical (that I know of) is the transmission mount needs replaced. My VW mechanic (very good one) told me that there was no hurry, I bought it and have it, just needs to be put in.......that was a year and a half ago, still needs to be done and you can see the part in the pictures. Little things like the door locks need to be sprayed out every few months as they get sticky. Passenger door lock needs adjusted, you have to push in to pop the door open, simple fix just haven't got around to it. Gas gauge doesn't go below 1/4 tank, I reset the odometer every fill up, start looking for gas at around 175 miles. Just little things that a vehicle of this age and mileage would have. I was told this motor had 30k on it when I bought, don't know if it is true, and I have put another 20K on it, runs good with no oil usage to speak of. Has surface rust in three or four little areas, I wired wheeled the rust out, covered with rust prohibitor and painted with touch up paint two years ago, needs to be done again. I planned on repainting it, but the paint really isn't all that bad, never got around to it. Couple of tears in the canvas that have been repaired with the same color cloth, comes with a kit to repair future tears, it is in the pictures. Jumper seat included, that is really rare, it has never been mounted, in fact, I removed the original wrapping when I got it to see its condition, brand new! The sink has been removed, stove works great, never even tried to get the refrigerator running, assume it probably needs work as I don't know. I dropped both propane tanks, sandblasted, revalved and repainted both.
I am very honest, but will probably miss little issues that I take for granted....but I will probably miss some of the things I have done or replaced that I will list below. It is being sold "AS-IS", with me disclosing what I know. If you are in question, please feel free to contact me and schedule a time to drive it your self. It is in better than average condition, and when something needed to be done I didn't cut corners....it got what it needed, the best available at the time. It is, after all, over 30 years old.
Below is a list of what I remember doing. I bought it 4 years ago, so everything listed was done some time during that span, I have, however, only put 20k on it since buying, actually a little less than that. I would say that about 85 to 90 percent of the Items were purchased from GoWesty.com, you can check there for the prices and get an idea of the money invested.
New RadiatorSome of the hoses replacedReplaced Throttle body (used)New ClutchNew AlternatorNew BeltsNew BatteryNew shift lever lockoutNew CV joint bootsNew Crank sealNew o-RingsNew rear ShocksA lot of new front end partsCustom anti-sway bar (stock was 3/4 inch, custom one is 1/14, virtually eliminates body roll)Replaced and packed wheel bearingsDropped gas tank, replaced seals an, I think we did the brackets too, not sure thoughNew alternator wiring harnessNew High dollar seat covers (250 dollars), seats are good underneathNew Grant Steering wheel, has some chips on it now, however.New stereo/cd player, James Taylor cd NOT included......4 speakers, great sound, but stereo is a little funky, sometimes switches from radio to cd and back again...ALL BY ITSELF!New antennaNew GoWesty alloy wheels and matched Michelin tires, again, between 15 and 20 k on them since I put them on........man were those expensive!New GoWesty bumpers. Again, really expensive, but way cool!New MufflerNew Dash lights, original circuit tape was complete crap, purchased complete dash wiring harness from GoWesty and replaced. By the time my mechanic got done that was a 650 dollar job, works great now.Replaced a lot of the fuel lines, not all, but many of themNew Brakes, including new rotors in the front.New ignition tumblers and keys.New snap in screens for rear and side door, great when camping
I have more pictures, but couldn't figure out how to post more than 24......
No shipping, buyer to make arrangements to pick up.........CASH ONLY at the time of pickup!
I'm sure there are things I'm missing that I have replaced, as I"m sure there are little annoying things that I have missed that still need to be done. In my mind, the only left that I wanted to do was paint it. My family and I have loved this thing and affectionately named it simply " The Dub", and the Dub wants to go camping.......not haul dog food!

Addition: I was asked recently about the ship to shore power (110volt hookup), I don't know, I have never tried to use. I would have it checked out before I hooked something to it. Same logic applies to the water system, with the sink removed I never gave any thought to whether or not the rest of it is hooked up, I know the water tank is still under the table, but don't know if any of the hoses are there or hooked up. Please feel free to send me any questions you may have, it may jog my memory about things I missed, and I'll do my best to answer them.......
