2000 BMW 5-Series Base Wagon 4-Door Description

Welcome BMW/wagon enthusiasts and readers of jalopnik/NPOCP, Oversteer, BaT, wagonnation, The SmokingTire, Regular Car Reviews, et al.
Is this the e39 longroof unicorn of your dreams? If you've been looking for a RWD manual wagon to hoon to Home Depot or a platform to make a 540/m5/LS swap without breaking the bank, here it is, 3 pedals already installed from the factory. As with all high mileage e39 BMWs, it has some quirks and issues, read on for a (mostly) exhaustive list.
The good:solid inline 6 M52 engine w/ 231k on the clock, runs very well, does not overheat5-speed manual gearbox shifts well into all gears, clutch feels fineContinental ExtremeContact DWS tires (225/40ZR17 in front, 215/45ZR17 in back) less than 1 year old on nice 17" style 19 wheels + matching sparetint all aroundECIS cold air intakeM-sport steering wheel w/ standard seats and standard wood shift knob. Leather shows some wear but no ripsPixels on dash are nice, stereo is pretty good but is missing a few pixelsCold AC, hot heatCD changer has magazine + tape player works wellAll windows + sunroof + rear hatch/glass open and close wellNO CEL, SRS or ABS lights oncargo cover and cargo net included in nice shapeclean IL title

Recent maintenance (all done within the last 6 months):rebuilt ABS moduleReplaced FR, FL wheel speed sensors6 NGK sprk plugs, 6 coil packs3rd party front cupholdersOEM rear cupholders3rd party console change binwiper blades (front + rear)Passenger seat ABS bypass moduleNew battery w/ warrantySunroof windscreen delete (included but needs adjustment)New nubs on key remotes (2 keys included + 1 blank)Replaced Final Stage Unit (to correct intermittent blower issue)

Known issues:driver seat will not move back completely, possibly stuck on foreign object that I cannot findsteering wheel telescope inoperable (tilt works fine), likely bad motormissing rear speaker coverstraction light on, needs a reset after I replaced the speed sensors and ABS module. DIS software should do this or <=1 hour at your indy BMW shoppe (recommend Rick's in Champaign).Rear suspension is a little noisyFR fender replaced due to fender bender, not perfectly aligned (replacement unit was a OE part already painted in matching color)Foglight clips are broken and lights are a little loose, currently zip tied for reinforcementPlastic underbody has started to crack and come off near front bumperLots of dings, scrapes and blemishes. A couple rust spots, one on tailgate, on on rear quarterCould use a thorough detailingheadlights are cloudyglass has some scratches near D pillar.Driver door slightly misaligned, but opens and closes fineSlight brake wobble at medium speed. I have not yet investigated this, but car stops fineA pillar headliner is coming unglued

Test drives encouraged. Drive, ride (Amtrak - CHM) or fly (Willard - CMI) into Champaign and you can drive it home. Help take care of this e39 for the next generation. I also have a nice 16" Mille Miglia wheel with tire that I would include upon request to the buyer. Email me if you'd like two short videos of the engine running.
