1987 Ford Ranger Electric Vehicle
1987 Ford Ranger Description
This posting is for an "old school" 1987 Ford Ranger electric vehicle conversion. The conversion kit is based on the KTA products. A 30HP (peak) DC shunt motor from Advanced (model FB1-4001) operating at 120VDC via 20 x 6 Volt golf cart batteries provides the motive power. The speed controller is a Curtis model 1221C rated at a maximum 400 Amps. Included is an onboard 110VAC charger, a K & W model BC-20 (with the LB-20) that plugs into a standard household outlet. Also included is a Sevcon DC to DC converter to float charge the 12V battery system powering the traditional vehicle electronics. A vacuum pump supplies the original power disk brakes (front). An electric pump operates the power steering. Power to the wheels is via the original clutch and 5 speed manual transmission. This vehicle is a "daily driver", not a show vehicle - as can be seen by the pictures. If you keep your foot out of it - it can provide 40~50 mile range. Charging usually is done overnite. Top speed is ~65MPH. It's an older - heavier vehicle, which will require a bit of room to reach that top speed. Presently - the batteries need attention or replacement - the range is down to ~5 miles.Registration is current and the [California] carpool lane - EV exempt stickers are included. The winning bidder will be responsible for removing/transporting the vehicle within 10 days of purchase.Prospective buyers are encouraged to inspect the vehicle and/or request additional pictures or information. An extensive file including the original manuals & documentation for almost all the components is included.
