1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Description
This garage kept Trans Am is a WS6 California built car with 60,550 miles on the odometer (which we also believe to be the actual mileage). It’s equipped with the original numbers matching 403 engine & TH350 transmission.
The car was beautifully restored in 2011, and has the following features:
- Stunning Maserati red exterior finish (the paint isn’t perfect, since it has acquired a few minor blemishes; but nothing is large enough to be shown by photography)
- All new exterior decals & emblems
- Reupholstered & restored camel tan interior
- New weather stripping
- New P275/50 R15 BF Goodrich G-Force T/A Drag Radial tires
- New led sequential tail light system
- New projection headlight system

The original engine was rebuilt (less than 2000 miles ago) to increase performance using the following components:
- New flat top pistons, main bearings, rod bearing, cam bearings, double roller timing chain, oil pump, water pump, brass freeze plugs & ARP fasteners
- Olds 350 #6 (64cc) heads professionally machined & fitted with 2” intake valves & 1.625” exhaust valves
- Performance camshaft featuring a 0.472-inch intake liftwith 290 degrees duration and a 496-inch exhaust lift with 300 degrees duration
- Adjustable Chevy style 1.6-1 roller rockers
- Edelbrock 2711 Performer intake manifold
- JET Performance 31102(Jet modified Streetmaster Rochester Quadrajet carburetor)
- New Mallory distributor
- Hooker 3107 Super Competition long tube headers
- Expertly installed 2-1/2” dual exhaust system with twin high flow catalytic converters, twin Flowmaster mufflers & eye-catching chrome tips.
The remaining power train components consist of the following:
- Original TH350 automatic transmission that was completely rebuilt using a B&M master kit & B&M shift kit. Shifting is controlled by a Hurst PRO/MATIC 2” ratchet shifter
- Transmission delivers positive shifts to the rear wheels via the original 323 positraction rear end
The engine produces: a slight cam lope, a smooth aggressive exhaust sound & excellent acceleration; all of which gives substance to the Trans Am’s muscle car image.
But best of all, this classic is just a pleasure to drive…and it never fails to get complements wherever it goes!
We’ve poured our heart & soul into this car for a number of years, but circumstances are such that we’re decided to let it go up for auction.
