This 1997 FZJ80 Land Cruiser is a rare, low-mileage truck that was bought in Texas and spent its entire life in the state. With only 85,000+ miles on the original, unmodified 1FZ-FE, a smooth shifting transmission and transfer case, and the rare factory locking differentials, this truck would be an ideal platform for an expedition-style build, or for long-term preservation as a comfortable and reliable daily driver.
From what we can determine, most of the original paint in present and in very good overall condition. The hood has been repainted and is in very nice shape. There are a handful of small dings and minor scrapes typical of a 20-yr old vehicle, but in general terms, the truck is in excellent cosmetic condition. The frame is clean and dry and there is no evidence of rust anywhere on the truck. The front bumper looks almost brand new and the rear bumper is in excellent condition, with only a minor ding in between the top of the bumper and the sill plate. There is a factory tow hitch installed below the rear bumper. All four fender flares are accounted for and undamaged save for minimal scratches typical of regular use.
As you can see from the pictures, the oak brown interior is in fantastic shape; the carpet shows no major stains and no fraying/abrasions, and the clean upholstery is the original leather, except for the front seats which are a very high quality leather. The third row is present, fully functional and in the same condition as the rear bench. Other than a few smudges on the well-preserved headliner, all interior trim and door cards are in excellent shape. There are minor rub marks on the steering wheel where the original leather is discolored, but no abrasions or fraying.
The dash is all original -including the dealer-installed indicator light for an alarm-, and all of the switches are fully operational except for the antenna up/down button (looks like it's the plastic antenna cable that is broken, a common problem for this series and a part still available OEM from Toyota). The A/C is fully charged and blows ice cold. It does have a Center Diff Lock button and a Front Cupholder that were added by the previous owner.
Front and rear brakes are in good condition and new OEM shock absorbers were fitted by the previous owner. Subsequently, the vehicle has a very smooth ride and floats down the road. The Land Cruiser is fitted with original wheels that are in excellent condition, including the center caps. Tires are also in good condition, with plenty of miles left in them. The original spare wheel and tire are present and accounted for, as is the jack and factory tool kit.
To many Land Cruiser enthusiasts around the world, the FZJ80 represented the pinnacle of Toyota's balance between offroad capability and comfortable daily driving. This 1997 is a rare example of the last year of the series, and it incorporates many of the minor improvements that Toyota introduced throughout the 7 years of production. This particular vehicle includes the rare option of factory locking differentials, making it an ideal candidate for use offroad and in inclement weather anywhere in the world. Unlike most of the 80 series for sale nowadays, this one survived 20 years of mild use (all in the central region of the state of Texas), with only a little over 85,000 miles on the odometer. As the included CarFax® report shows, the vehicle has not had any accidents or issues reported and is offered with a clean Texas title. We can assist in arrangements with shipping or the vehicle can be picked up in Austin, Texas, ready to be driven across the country. Shipping is the buyers expense obviously.
If you've always wanted an 80 Series Land Cruiser or want to replace a cherished older 80 series with many more miles on the clock than this one, here's a unique opportunity to drive off on a true unmolested and unmodified survivor that is ready for the adventure of the next 20 years.
